Pre-Op Instructions
Good preparation helps surgery go smoothly and supports a safer, more comfortable recovery. Your WOOA surgeon will confirm exactly what applies to you, but most patients can expect the following.
Before Your Surgery Date
- Health check-up: WOOA plans every operation using pre-operative tests such as ultrasound, blood tests and a chest X-ray.
- Medications: Tell us about every medicine and supplement you take. Unless your doctor advises otherwise, you will usually be asked to stop medications about two weeks before surgery.
- Alcohol: Avoid alcohol for around two weeks before surgery.
- Smoking: Stop smoking at least one week before surgery – smoking slows healing.
On the Day of Surgery
- Fasting: Do not eat or drink for at least 10 hours beforehand.
- Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothes that will not press on the treated area.
- Accessories: Leave metal jewellery at home and remove nail polish from fingers and toes.
- Skin: Do not apply body lotion to the surgical area or remove underarm hair unless your surgeon says it is fine.
These are general guidelines based on WOOA’s standard breast-surgery care. Every patient receives personalised instructions from their surgeon at consultation and before discharge – always follow the advice given to you, and contact WOOA’s 24-hour support team if anything feels wrong.
