Breast Reduction at WOOA

WOOA Plastic Surgery is in HM Tower, 492 Gangnam-daero, Gangnam-gu, a short walk from Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam Stations, and welcomes patients from around the world.

WOOA’s breast team has more than 20 years of breast surgery experience. Breast reduction is planned alongside breast lift techniques, so heavy breasts are made smaller, lifted and reshaped in one operation – easing everyday discomfort as well as improving the breast line.

what is a breast reduction surgery?

A breast reduction removes excess breast tissue and skin to make overly large breasts smaller and lighter, while repositioning the nipple and areola for a natural shape. At WOOA, the amount of reduction and the incision pattern are matched to breast size and the degree of sagging.

Benefits of Breast Reduction at WOOA

A breast reduction at WOOA aims to improve both comfort and appearance:

  • Everyday Comfort: relief from shoulder and back pain and from chafing beneath the breasts.
  • Golden-Ratio Line: the distance between the upper and lower chest is measured to plan a smooth line that suits the size you want.
  • Minimal Scarring: incisions are kept as small as the reduction allows, with scar care from WOOA Dermatology.
  • Safety: mammogram and ultrasound before surgery, and a board-certified anesthesiologist present for every operation.

Why Consider a Breast Reduction?

Breast reduction is often chosen to address:

  • Physical Discomfort: shoulder and back pain caused by very large breasts.
  • Skin Irritation: chafing and discomfort beneath the breasts.
  • Sagging: large breasts that have dropped with age, weight change or childbirth.

How Is a Breast Reduction Performed at WOOA?

  1. Periareolar Incision: an incision around the areola for smaller reductions, keeping scars minimal – generally for mild macromastia (above an E cup).
  2. Vertical Incision: around the areola plus a vertical line, allowing more tissue to be removed – generally for moderate macromastia (above an F cup).
  3. Inverted T Incision: from the areola down to and along the breast fold, removing the most tissue – for severe macromastia (above a G cup) with significant sagging.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Breast Reduction?

You may be a good candidate if you:

  • Have shoulder or back pain from overly large breasts.
  • Experience chafing under the breasts.
  • Have large breasts that have sagged after weight loss, childbirth or with age.

Recovery After Breast Reduction

  • First Weeks: Rest for the first 48 hours and avoid lifting heavy objects for 2–4 weeks; light walking from about two weeks.
  • Support: Wear a support garment for about one month and avoid upper-body strength training for three months.

Before Your Breast Reduction

Stop all medications two weeks before surgery unless advised otherwise, avoid alcohol from two weeks before until one month after, avoid smoking from one week before until three months after, and fast for at least 10 hours before surgery.

FAQs

Which Incision Will I Need?

It depends on how much tissue needs removing and how much the breasts have sagged: periareolar for smaller reductions, vertical for moderate, and inverted T for large reductions with significant sagging.

Why Choose WOOA for Breast Reduction?

Will There Be Scarring After a Breast Reduction?

Some scarring is unavoidable, but WOOA keeps incisions as short as possible and places them to sit under underwear or swimwear. Scars fade over time, helped by scar care from WOOA Dermatology.
